This template's initial visibility currently defaults to autocollapse, meaning that if there is another collapsible item on the page (a navbox, sidebar, or table with the collapsible attribute), it is hidden apart from its title bar; if not, it is fully visible.

To change this template's initial visibility, the |state= parameter may be used:

• {{أستريكس|state=collapsed}} will show the template collapsed, i.e. hidden apart from its title bar.
• {{أستريكس|state=expanded}} will show the template expanded, i.e. fully visible.

This template automatically places articles into the relevant Asterix category. To do so it uses the following call structure:

{{Asterix | <sort argument> | type = }}

• The <sort argument> is the string under which the calling page is sorted in its category.
• صنف is the type of category. The arguments used for this are:
  • كتاب (default) - Category:Asterix books
  • film - Category:Asterix films
  • لعبة - Category:Video games based on Asterix
  • شخصيات - Category:Asterix characters
  • غيرهم - Category:Asterix

Note that normal positioning of this template - just before the categories - will result in the automatic category being placed first.
