شعر العانة هي جزء مهم من الأعضاء التناسلية خاصة في المرأة، وهي منطقة تجمع كوسادة من الدهنيات و يكسوها شعر متفاوت في كثافيته و درجة نموه. و ينمو شعر العانة في المراحل الأولي من البلوغ و يصاحبة عادة نمو شعر تحت الأبط في الجنسين، كما يصاحب نمو شعر العانة تغييرات متصاعدة في شكل الأعضاء التناسلية الخارجية الأخري.

و يسمي الاستحداد وهو من سنن الإسلام لأن هذا الشعر معرض للاصابة بأمراض جلدية كثيرة مثل القمل والجرب والتنيا. ولذلك فمن الأفضل حلقه او تخفيفه
